Resolve Your Brand

January is the perfect time to reflect on the year that has been and resolve to make the year ahead just that little bit better. Some of us vow to hit the gym more, drink less, be better with finances and get out and meet new people but what about your business New Years resolutions? You can easily apply those same goals to your brand. Here are a few branding resolutions that might just set you on track for your best year yet…

1. Get into shape

Just like a few too many rum balls and mince pies at Christmas can stack on the kilos, your branding can easily get out of shape if you don’t keep a close eye on it. Spend some time looking at your branding as a whole and work out where you can trim the fat. Keep things simple, cut out the fillers that are not adding any meaning or relevance and complicating your story. Do away with anything that is not living up to your core values and vow to maintain a clean image with direct messaging.

2. Make a wise investment

As a rule of thumb, you should be investing an average of 10% of your gross revenue back into your own marketing and advertising (8% for small companies and 12% for larger ones). Spend some time reevaluating your budget to make sure you have allocated enough money towards bettering your brand. Draw up a marketing plan to help you budget campaigns that span the entire year so you know how much to put aside for the year ahead.

3. Meet new people

Your branding isn’t just built on the products you sell or the colour of your logo, it’s an entire way of life and that includes you and how your customers react to you. As you hit the networking scene this year, you should be a walking, talking brand advertisement. Equip yourself with a killer business card and a positive attitude and show people that you believe in your brand. After all, if you don’t, who will?

4. Be consistent

You can’t go to the gym twice a day for only two weeks a year and expect to be ripped, you need to train regularly to achieve the results you want. The same applies to your branding and advertising. Be consistent with your marketing so that you remain in the forefront of your customer’s mind. Your brand should always look, speak and behave in a certain way. That doesn’t mean that every campaign should be identical, it just means that there should be consistent elements and an overall tone that immediately identifies your business.
